Sometimes you just need to give up and accept that things aren’t going you way. That’s hard for me to take, I’ll admit, but just sometimes, even I have to give up…
One such occasion happened on Sunday, shortly after the last race of the Formula 1 season. I needed to write an article about the [...]

Laptop Shenanigans

In: Tech

14 Oct 2009

So, the laptop finally arrived today. It was earlier than originally suggested, but a day later than it could have been – we had to take Rachel back to Bedford yesterday, and despite the “PLEASE LEAVE PARCELS NEXT DOOR” notice – they left a note.
But they tried again today and luckily my Dad was in [...]

OK, first off… a disclaimer. This site ISNT mine, I promise!

It’s finally here!
As I’ve mentioned on AdventuresInWindows7, today sees the release of the version Windows 7 that will hit the shops! It seems to have taken forever, I don’t know if that’s because it’s the first time we’ve had official Release Candidates or what.
Because I’m an MSDN subscriber, I get to download it! So guess [...]

Getting Ready For Linux

In: Tech

29 Jul 2009

I’m having a somewhat geeky day today. I’m sorting some PC stuff out, and getting ready to install Ubuntu Linux onto one of my machines.
It’s my first foray into Linux, and I’ve ordered Linux Format’s Getting Started With Ubuntu magazine special, which contains a load of tutorials, and a copy of Ubuntu so you can [...]

One of the people I follow on Twitter, Alex Karis, just posted a link to a new online music service.
Moof is a new service which aims to be your first choice for online social music streaming. I’ve signed up, but sadly it doesn’t work very well with IE8, and it requires Flash (which I don’t [...]

Just thought this was worth mentioning…
Microsoft today warned users of a serious security vulnerability affecting Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. The vulnerability resides in the affects the ActiveX components which allow users to play video.
The original article I read can be found here, or you can visit Microsoft.com for a workaround.

I was playing around with CSS today, building a site for a client of my friend Jamie. He’s a graphic designer, so did the design, and it’s up to me to tarnslate it into code, preferably using the latest techniques.
One of the things the design called for was a centred layout. That, it would seem, [...]

My friend Dave recently pointed me at Load Impact, a new load testing web app, which is currently in BETA (aren’t all web apps? Hell, I’m thinking about putting a BETA label on Musoswire – might get more traffic!)
So, Load Impact. It’s a completely web-based tool for load testing any website. Just give it a URL and [...]

This is just a test post – we’re doing some blog tracking research at work, and we need to see if it’s working. So The Point is a community arts building in the heart of Doncaster.
