#ScrewXFactor – The Chosen One

In: Online Music| Social Media

Well, it’s pretty well unanimous, isn’t it?

Yesterday I asked my friends and followers to choose a track we could all purchase (either digitally or physically) to try and stop the X Factor single getting the coveted Christmas No. 1.

I don’t hate X Factor – I applaud Simon Cowell for what he’s created. I just feel as though we need something fresh for Christmas this year. And yes, I realise my campaign won’t stop everyone going and buying the X Factor record, but maybe, just maybe, we can stop it becoming the Christmas Number 1.

So… you’ve all spoken, and by popular demand the track is…

Andrea Bocelli – White Christmas

Whether you like his music or not, you can’t deny the guy has an incredible voice and a great story – far more interesting a yarn than anything any X Factor contestant can spin.

Growing up in rural Tuscany, he began piano lessons at the age of six, later adding flute and saxophone to his list of musical abilities. The young Bocelli was born with congenital glaucoma, and a soccer accident rendered him completely blind at the age of 12. Undaunted, he studied at the University of Piza (where he earned  Doctorate in Law), using the money he earned from practising law to fund singing lessons leading to before embarking one of the greatest voices we know today.

A disciple of Pavarotti and Zucchero, he rose to fame first with a demo of “Miserere”, and making appearances at his mentor’s concerts, before finally releasing his first album and embarking on his own musical path in 1994.

You may not like classical / opera, but I bet you have a soft spot for White Christmas, most famously recorded by Bing Crosby for the film of the same name. Andrea’s version is, in my opinion, a cleaner a more measured vocal performance than the well known Crosby version.

The record is available in shops TODAY, and you can download it from Amazon or iTunes (or any other digital store) if that’s your thing.

The important part is that you buy it this week, so that your purchase counts towards Sunday’s Official Chart. Being the last Sunday before Christmas, whatever is numero uno on Sunday will be Christmas No. 1.

Make it happen – go buy White Christmas now!
