Getting Ready For Linux

In: Tech

29 Jul 2009

I’m having a somewhat geeky day today. I’m sorting some PC stuff out, and getting ready to install Ubuntu Linux onto one of my machines.
It’s my first foray into Linux, and I’ve ordered Linux Format’s Getting Started With Ubuntu magazine special, which contains a load of tutorials, and a copy of Ubuntu so you can [...]

I don’t know how many of you are reading this from the UK, but we have a show over here called “Secret Millionaire”.
The concept is that some unknown millionaire (yknow, a scrap metal merchant or something…) is taken to a town in the UK where NOBODY knows them. They work as a volunteer for a [...]

It was a great grand prix today – really exciting, and it was really great to see McLaren back to winning ways with Lewis!
For the first time I sat with the laptop while I watched the race, running TweetDeck to keep up-to-date with all the F1 fans and some of the teams who are constantly [...]

One of the people I follow on Twitter, Alex Karis, just posted a link to a new online music service.
Moof is a new service which aims to be your first choice for online social music streaming. I’ve signed up, but sadly it doesn’t work very well with IE8, and it requires Flash (which I don’t [...]

It’s that time of year again when we have to boot up Excel and tidy up our accounts, ready for presentation to the relevant bodies (in my case the Tax Credits office and the Inland Revenue).
It has to be one of the most boring jobs in the world. That said, whenever I do it I [...]

Okay, so having seen Harry Potter on Wednesday, the next 2 days were spent working – both at darts and for a client (more on that soon).
Saturday Rachel came up for the weekend – and as usual, it was great fun!
We went to a BBQ at a friends in the village. Mark is our local farmer [...]

So as I said last Wednesday (opening day) that we were off to see the new Harry Potter film. The Half Blood Prince is the 6th book in the series, and each film just gets better and better.
I don’t want to spoil it too much for those who want to go and see it, but as with [...]

Hi everyone!
Sorry for the absense of late. Last week was absolutely manic, what with my accounts to do (still doing them!), random pub nights, Harry Potter, and finishing a clients’ website. Then of course Rachel was here at the weekend. So with all that going off, I hardly had time to blog.
I apologise, and will [...]

Off to Hogwarts

It’s the opening day of the new Harry Potter film today, and guess what?!
I’m off to see it!!!
Just thought I’d rub it in for all you Harry Potter fans out there. I will of course report on how good (or bad) it is… hopefully without too many spoilers!

If, like me, you fancy yourself as a bit of a royalist, you might be interested in the Royal Household’s new Twitter account.
@BritishMonarchy aims to provide news and information regarding the royals’ engagements, events, etc. Sadly, the Queen herself will not be twittering, and neither will the rest of them (I bet Will does? Anyone [...]
